My Testimony

Well, I was saved back in 1998 and then in 1999 after I went to a camp I decide to write my testimony of how I came to know Christ. So here it is as it was written then. I was just 19 years old then 🙂

Praise be to our Lord and God Jesus Christ. “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:4). This is the same way God chose you and me. The lord placed me in a family where I was lavishly loved because, “Lord you knew all about me while I was in my mother’s body. (Psalms 139:13). My mother is a person of strong faith. So from my childhood onwards she taught me the ways of God, i.e., how to pray, always to submit everything to God before doing a particular thing etc. O Lord! I thank you for giving me such a good mother. She planted the seeds in my childhood.

My Father and mother worked in Rourkela in Orissa, a state in India. My father retired in 1985 and we came to Kerala, our native state. Then I was only five years old. I joined school and God helped me to pass my tenth standard with brilliant marks. At that age I was just an ordinary boy not having any strong faith or belief, but I always went to church and read my Bible as a result of my childhood training. I also passed my 12th standard with very high marks. My ambition was to study Engineering in in one of the renowned colleges in India. I was sure that I would get admission there but due to some reasons which I realised later was God’s doing, I did not get admission there. However God gave me a good rank in the State entrance examination which I never expected because I had concentrated more on the former. So I took admission in a college in my state itself.

During this time my father’s heart disease became very serious. So the doctor said told us that it was necessary that he should have a bypass surgery. All the time I was in studying away from home. My classes started in October. One day in January when I came home Mamma told me that Daddy and herself were going to Madras Medical Mission (MMM) for the operation. This path was also shown by God. At First Mamma was worried where she would go. Then mamma’s brother called and he told her that they could go to MMM as they were staying in Madras and would help because the head nurse there was their relative. So Mamma and Daddy went to MMM on February 7,1998. Mamma told me that there was no need for me to go. The operation was on February 12th. The operation was successful. The next day Daddy was better and Mamma went to see him but that night his condition became serious. Now Mamma met many Christians in MMM. They prayed together and Daddy’s condition became better. So Mamma called me to stay one week in MMM.

So I went for one week on February 20th. I reached MMM on 21st noon. My Uncle’s daughter and her brother there were born again. The Lord used my cousin (Tina) to draw me to him. I went to MMM and Mamma told me that it was by God’s grace that we had received Daddy back. My cousin sister had been a girl of the world. She told me her testimony and how she had received Jesus as her savior. She told me that the world did not matter to her anymore. I went to their prayer also. My sister’s cousins also used to come to MMM and share how the Lord lead their life. I was always happy to see all of God’s people around me. I also wanted to become like them, so carefree.

The hospital had a very spiritual atmosphere. And God was starting to draw me to himself. My Mamma had a wonderful experience before I reached MMM. One day when Daddy’s condition was serious Mamma was praying with other friends (Tamilians). Mother’s sister in law was also with them. Mamma asked God, “ I want to feel your presence.” Just then a Muslim lady whose husband had undergone bypass surgery came into the room. Suddenly she knelt down and began to praise God. After the prayer when she was asked she told them that she had seen Jesus with her own eyes. Her description fit exactly the description given about Jesus in the Bible in Revelation. Jesus was standing near the window. His eyes were blazing like fire. She could not see his face. His hair was white and he wore a white garment. He was in all his glory. (Exodus 33:20 “One cannot see my face ; for no one may see me and live”: Revelation 1:4 “ His head and hair were white like wool; as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire” )

The Muslim lady did not know anything about the Bible. But that same day she came up with these verses that the Lord had shown her when she opened the Bible (in Tamil) “Lord, my ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you”. (Job 42:5) What a miracle! The Lord reveals himself to his people in glorious ways.

I heard all these when I reached MMM. All this inspired me. Whenever I entered the chapel in MMM I could sit and pray and never feel bored. For the first time in my life I enjoyed prayer. My cousin also witnessed to me. She also gave me a book to read, “I dared to call him Father”. I also read another book about Antichrist. Reading about Antichrist drew me closer to Jesus. The first book was the one that the Lord used to change my life. Praise the Lord! This book tells about the experiences of Belquis sheikh, a Pakistani woman, how the Lord saved her, how she held her faith in a country like Pakistan and some experiences in which she left her body and went to a faraway country by the power of the Holy Spirit and prayed for someone. Also of her baptism and How Satan pained her. All the while the Holy Spirit was moving me and preparing me to accept Jesus Christ.

My cousin, Tina also made me read John’s Gospel everyday. She also made me study one verse a day. She told me to study John 3:16 “ For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life”. That was one verse which did touch me a lot.

Then on February 28th, I was going back to my college. That day in the morning Tina took me to the Chapel. She told me the need to be born again. (“No one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” John 3:3) She told me that each sin I had done had pained Jesus even more than I could imagine. Each time I committed a sin I was striking a nail into Jesus’ hand or spitting on him or beating him. All this made me sad because the Holy Spirit was moving me. So Tina helped me to say a prayer in which I accepted Jesus Christ as my sole savior and redeemer.

Romans 3:23,24 says “A;; men have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God and they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus”. We are also saved from God’s wrath through Christ’s blood. (Romans 5:9)

The experience that followed was much greater than what I can describe with words. After accepting Jesus I felt so happy and free as I had never felt before. I began to talk to Jesus just as he was my friend. I experienced that he was always with me. The joy I felt is beyond description. Whenever I slept I felt that I was sleeping on Jesus’ lap. The experience is so great that I can never forget it all my life. Every time I am down, this thought always cheers me up. Jesus truly showed me what love was; his never-ending love!

On the same day I returned to my college. I witnessed to my friends. I was very happy. I was never worried about Daddy. I would always tell Jesus, “ I know you will take care of him”. So I believed that he would become all right. But the very next week, on March 10th, Mamma called me early morning that I had to go to MMM as Daddy’s condition was very serious. However, on that day Daddy died and I went to my native place with another of my cousin. The funeral was on the 11th. God gave me the grace to overcome Daddy’s death. Mamma was also very strong. I had a peace of heart that the Holy Spirit gave me. The lady next door (a believer) told me that she could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in our house that day.

God took Daddy only when Mamma submitted him to God. Earlier Mamma had asked God for his life, but God showed us signs that it was not good for daddy to live. (He showed Mamma the story of King Hezekiah when he asked God to prolong his life and God answered that it was not good for him.) On March 10th Mamma submitted Daddy to the Lord as the Lord had shown her the message Isaiah 57:1,2 “the righteous perish and no one ponders it in his heart. Devout men are taken away and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace. They find peace as they lie in death.” Mamma submitted Daddy to God and in a few minutes God took away Daddy from this world.

Here ends my testimony. My Mamma also has great testimonies of how the Lord has led her life when she is living alone. I trust my Lord to keep me safe . Jeremiah 31:10 “ He will watch over his flock like a shepherd .” Praise the Lord!!!

After I was saved it has been 10 years now, God has been gracious enough to lead me in all paths of my life and to help me live my life completely for him. After becoming a Christian I have gone through several tough times, but in all situations I have seen the God is sovereign and that he uses our bad circumstances to reveal more of his glory. He also has been gracious enough to open my eyes to believe in the Doctrines of grace which are so precious to me. I hope that I can live my life completely in the way that God wants me to live!
